Profile of Mr. Tomas D. Dizon, President, St. Catherine Realty Corporation

Mr. Tomas Dizon
Born at Porac, Pampanga on August 23, 1931, Tomas D. Dizon was the sixth in a middle class family with nine children.

His entrepreneurial spirit was first depicted at the tender age of six. He started out as a street vendor and eventually put up his own shop in manufacturing toy trucks when he became a
teenager. When he was old enough, he studied at the University of Sto. Tomas and took up Business Management.

A couple of years later, his hard-earned money gave him the capital to venture into the gasoline station business. Later on, he put up his own hollow blocks manufacturing.

The first company was named Porac Blocks Manufacturing (PBM). Soon after its success, Lead Blocks MFG (LBM) opened up at San Fernando, Pampanga and the third one, Solid Pipes MFG (SPM) followed. Presently, only SPM remained to centralize and handle the manufacturing operations in Angeles City. It was able to penetrate the national market and likewise gained recognition through its use of hydraulic machines to produce a large volume of hollow blocks without sacrificing quality. And because it conforms to ASTM qualifications, the company supplied concrete products to various small, medium, and large scale contractors and developers.

After a while, he ventured in another business specifically in subdivision development. Being a
devout Catholic and a loyal citizen of Porac, he named the company after St. Catherine de
Alexandria, the patron saint of his hometown. (To see company profile, please click here.)

As a businessman, he was detail-oriented and organized. His success, combined with innate
capacity to connect well with people made him a popular figure in the province and yet, he never
used it to further any personal plans. For he was a man who shuns grandstanding and would rather embrace the quiet cloak of humility.

As a boss respected by his employees, he gave them the same kind of treatment as he would his
associates and family. He would refrain investing in new equipment if it means discharging
people from their jobs. He also organized cooperatives to help employees who need financial
assistance. At one point, he even established backyard cattle-raising where he would give the
second born calf to his caretakers.

As a man of his word, he would not back out of a deal. His word was his unbreakable pledge to
whoever it was given.

All throughout his life, he admired people who perform an honest and hard work in order to earn
a decent living, even if it was washing windows or peddling items on the street. He gave alms to
those who truly need it. He helped financially those who were determined to help themselves. He
encouraged people, both young and old, to start a business of their own. He was a true
businessman in mind and heart.

In his success, he never forgot to extend his blessings to the less fortunate. He was sincere
and always willing to help other people. His involvement in various charitable institutions
including the Porac Foundation, Save Porac Foundation and the Celestino M. Dizon Foundation, an
organization that he conceptualized and named in honor of his father, is an affirmation of his
generous spirit.

In return, Tomas was honored by several organizations who recognized his contribution to his
fellowmen. The Certificate of Appreciation came from the Philippine Association of Realtors
Boards (July 13, 2002), Metro Angeles Realtors Board (December 09, 2002), Pampanga Area
Productivity Council (October 21, 2003), Sangguniang Barangay ng Pandan (July 29, 1999) and
Guagua Water District (May 19, 2000). He was also awarded as the Most Outstanding Kapampangan in the field of Business with Civic Consciousness in 1996.

His high capacity to share his blessings made him an ideal role model for his children. He and
his wife, Ludivina Singian, raised them to believe that possessing material things will not make
them richer in the eyes of God. More importantly, he showed them that when you help other
people, one must do it voluntarily, with humility and without funfare. It is no wonder then that
he was never interested in politics.

But everything that has been said, written, and thought about him is incomplete if it did not
include his unconditional love for his family. In the same way, he knew that their mutual love
is what made his life richer, complete and more meaningful.
